What is a Sleep Study? Can it Help?South Bay Neurological Diagnostic operates and maintains a sleep center for those patients whose doctors refer them for sleep disorder evaluation, typically from a work-related injury. In order to diagnose your sleep disorder, our neurologist will evaluate your symptoms. This evaluation starts with a visit to our center or office locations. The staff will ask you about your sleep history and perform some diagnostic tests. After you undergo a sleep consultation, South Bay will forward the report to your referring doctor for further Worker's Compensation evaluation any additional follow-up. The Polysomnogram (PSG)
A Polysomnogram (sleep study) is a multi-component test which electronically transmits and records specific physical activities while you sleep. Our labs can accommodate shift workers and people with circadian rhythm sleep disorders and do the test at other times of the day. The PSG monitors many body functions including brain (EEG), eye movements (EOG), muscle activity or skeletal muscle activation (EMG), heart rhythm (ECG) and breathing function or respiratory effort during sleep. After the study, our physician specialists will analyze and interpret the data recorded during the study and make treatment recommendations, required to make a Sleep Disability Determination With Rating.
